In March 2025, Darlington was awarded up to £20 million over ten years from the UK Government’s Pride in Place programme.
The programme aims to improve neighbourhoods by making them stronger, safer, and more connected. It focuses on what local people need and care about.
Pride in Place is overseen by the Darlington Neighbourhood Board, which includes local businesses, residents, and partner organisations.
Pride in Place is a £20 million, 10-year programme to help make Darlington’s neighbourhoods better places to live, work, and thrive.
It will invest in local communities, improve neighbourhood spaces and facilities, create opportunities, and help people feel safer, more connected, and proud of where they live.
The programme will focus investment where it is needed most, particularly in Skerne Park, Red Hall, Bank Top, Northgate and Branksome. These areas are not defined by strict boundaries, so other communities with similar needs can also benefit.

Darlington STEM Centre
Supported by £5 million from Darlington’s Pride in Place programme, a landmark new STEM Centre is coming to our town, creating exciting opportunities for local people to learn, develop new skills and build careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Based at Darlington’s Science Park alongside Teesside University and CPI, the state-of-the-art centre will connect education with some of the region’s fastest-growing industries.

Dropped Kerbs Across Darlington
New dropped kerbs are being introduced at locations across the town. The improvements will make it easier for people using wheelchairs, mobility aids, and pushchairs to get around safely and independently.
By making crossings easier to navigate, the new dropped kerbs will benefit residents of all ages and abilities and help make Darlington a more accessible place for everyone.
